Q- What is Aston Whitehall?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

A- With years of experience as a Renovation Management Firm (created in 1988), Aston Whitehall is responsible for the management of a rapidly-growing Co-op of contractors, single-trade specialists and other related professional services.

The Co-op is a closed partnership between all of its member-services.

see Related topics:  Overview   Funding Program Q&A

As the developer of several renovation management systems, including RapidQuote (where detailed estimates are viewed by our clients through a secured, web-based system), Aston Whitehall manages the back-end administrative and support centre for all Co-op members.

This enables the Co-op to offer a wide range of qualified services ranging from Individual Tradespersons to Full-Service, Design/Build Contractors. (see different service levels)

It is through this wide variety of services that our clients can purchase different types of repairs and renovations, from small fix-up jobs below $3,000 to Basement Finishing, Kitchens, Additions and Custom Homes.

Part of our role includes the following:

1- Initially determine the level of service required for each client (see service levels).

2- Assigning an appropriate Co-op member to view the work.

3- All estimates are performed by a single estimating team at one, centralized location.

4- Management of local and regional booking schedules of all partner-contractors.

5- Management of Cash Incentives on a client-to-client basis, with funding provided by The Discount Subsidy Program in support of a Co-op Partner or specific area. see Pricing

Q- What is meant by a Renovation Co-op?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

A- Our Co-op consists of a closed, professional network of veteran Contractors, Single-Trade Specialists and other related services.

Each of these specialists has been screened and approved as Service Providers for The Canadian Renovation Funding Program.

The main objective of the Co-op is to provide a more efficient, standardized way in which renovations are dealt with, along with a strong code of ethical business practices.

All renovation quotes are completed by an in-house team of estimators on behalf of all Co-op partners.
see
Centralized Estimating

Another function of the Co-op is to maintain orderly booking schedules for our contractors.

Through the use of a proprietary Renovation Management System, all contractor-partners are able to work within tighter geographical areas, which allows for a more efficient way to cope with their existing renovation jobs.

Q- Who Are Our Typical Clients?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

A- In addition to the numerous inquiries received through the internet, referrals to our Co-op Services come from various local sources including:

Lending Underwriters
Realtors
Real Estate Law Firms
Financial Planners &
Related Retail Stores

If we had to point to a single, specific reason why we have earned the trust of these important referral sources, it would be the structured and procedural manner in which we operate.

In addition, our Co-op represents professional quality and workmanship,  regardless of whether the service is at the Economy Level or the Designer Level.

All work is performed through an efficient, no-nonsense system that spells out everything for each client.

And as the long-term, stable growth of this closed, professional network is completely dependent upon all of
its partners fulfilling their role as Approved Service Providers, we collectively maintain a relentless watch over all facets of our organization to ensure that we all "get it right."

Q- Who First Views the Work?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

A- It depends on the type of job involved.

For single-trade jobs that may not require close management (eg; roofing, flooring, painting, etc.), an approved tradesperson will deal with you directly.

For multiple trade jobs requiring management (eg; Basement Finishing, Kitchens, Additions, etc.) the job is initially viewed by a contractor/partner, or by an individual from our own estimating team.

When an approved contractor/partner views the work, the details of the job are more accurately forwarded to our team of in-house estimators.

To be most efficient, we always assign the viewing of the work to a contractor-partner who is best-suited to perform the work based upon level of service, geography, etc.

However, in some cases, the contractor who initially views the work may not necessarily be the contractor who winds up performing the work for you.

The reason may be:

The viewing contractor may not be available at the time the homeowner gives the “go-ahead” for the job. (this happens frequently when mortgage refinancing is involved, as it can take several weeks to complete the transaction).

However, as all contractor-partners operating at the same level of service collect the same fee for the same job (as determined by our centralized estimating system for any given job) the workmanship and price remains consistent.

Q- Who Performs the Work?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

A- As one of the main benefits of our Co-op, Aston Whitehall coordinates the logistical match-up of contractor with client, based upon one or more of the following criteria:

Proximity:  As the biggest “enemies” of the industry have become gas prices and traffic jams (especially in and around the GTA), we try to keep each contractor working within a more confined area.

Through this coordination each job is performed faster, the costs are kept down, and the contractor’s capacity to perform local work is greatly increased.

As well, any service calls that may occur after the job is completed are dealt with more efficiently.

Service Level:  The proper matching of service level (the type of contracting required) to each client is based not only upon price range, but on other factors as well:

For example, a Design-Build or Managing/Working Contractor may have years of experience in completing interior work, such as basements, bathrooms, and kitchens, but may prefer to avoid managing tradespersons involved with exterior work, such as roofing, concrete, etc.

Other contractors may specialize in managing all types exterior work but prefer to stay away from interior renovations.

And then there are those contractors who are set up to efficiently complete both interior and exterior jobs.

This simply becomes a matter of our identifying the personal preferences and experience on the part of each contractor.

In order to create a good “match-up,” we’ll determine whether or not it makes sense to mix up interior and exterior work under one contract or to separately assign individual tradespersons for the work.

From our standpoint, whatever is good for the client is good for us.

ClientView

Q- How do I view my Estimate?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

A- Each estimate is prepared for client-viewing through our web-based RapidQuote System.

The initial estimate will contain all of the specifications of the work to be performed, based upon the information forwarded by the viewing contractor.

This is presented to each client to verify that all items that were initially discussed with the contractor are included in the estimate.

Once all of the details are verified by the client, the
pricing is carried out and displayed for full viewing.

Depending upon the work involved (eg; Basement Finishing), the system displays the price of each component separately (such as flooring, painting, etc.)

As well, the estimate will display a subsidy fund amount (if available at the time) that may be credited toward the cost of the job. (see subsidy program)

Q- Who pays Who?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

A- The Co-op is supported through monthly access fees from its members for all back-end accounting, administration of booking schedules,  presentation of estimates to clients, etc, along with other technology usage fee and non-renovation related revenues.

Due to insurance restrictions however, each partner collects payment directly from the client for the work involved.

The Co-op strictly acts as a back-end administrative support centre for its approved partner-contractors, individual trade specialists and other related professional services.

Prices

Aston
Whitehall

Q- What about the Prices?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

A- All contractor-partners are supported by our Discount Subsidy Program. which credits the contractor with the difference between a discounted price and the Best Co-op Price.  See Discount Subsidy Program

This means that the contractor does not have to constantly negotiate with clients over the pricing, which ultimately leads to a reduction in quality and service.

Instead, the Co-op offsets a portion of the client's cost with funds supplied by our Discount Subsidy Fund (subject to availability), which is used to provide substantial cash incentives to homeowners when necessary.

(For details, see Subsidy Program)

Q- Why do our contractors use the same Estimating System?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

A- The efficiencies developed within our Central Estimating System enable both the contractor and our in-house estimators to quickly create a highly-detailed estimate for each job, as well as maintain stabilized costing.

Under normal circumstances, many estimates can take up to 2 hours for a contractor to complete, which are normally done at home throughout the late evening hours.

As well, almost all contractors have their own unique way of estimating their renovation jobs, many of them leaving out important details within the original quote.

Through one standardized system, each estimated is carefully produced with maximum details included, spelling out everything. In plain words...all the "t's" are crossed and all the "i's" are dotted.

This is good for both our partner/contractors and the client.

The contractor can devote all of h
